1. What's the purpose of the Military Woman Home Page?

This site to provide a meeting place for military women to exchange information unique to their military experience and to offer firsthand information to women thinking about a military career. To this end, it is a site where military women can:
-- Share their views and experiences.
-- Enjoy the camaraderie with other military women.
-- Meet military women from other services to broaden their perspective and knowledge; dispel stereotypes; change paradigms.
-- Hear from military women veterans who can share their experience and wisdom.
-- Keep abreast of current womens' issues in our armed forces.
This is also a site where women thinking about joining the military can get firsthand information about military life.

2. I'm a student and would like to do a project on the topic of women in the military. May I get some assistance on preparing my research paper?

I've had visitors ranging from grammar school to doctoral level make student inquires about this topic. Frankly, I'm delighted to see an academic interest on this subject. I always try to assist students in their search for first-hand information, as well as refer them to libraries and other reference material. I consider electronic research quite valuable, particularly when a student can communicate directly with a human being--specifically one who has direct experience with the military who can provide straightforward answers. A good number of military women, including myself, have offered on-line interviews and served as primary resource material to quite a few students.

3. I expected to find more information about facts and statistics on women in the military. Why isn't this type of data available here?

I'm interested in providing more fluid and personal information to my visitors rather than functioning as a research center. There are myriad sites on the Internet in which to glean fact-based information. I will add these sites when discovered, recommended or requested by someone.

4. I'm interested in joining the military. How do I know which branch of service would best suit me?

Don't expect this web page to offer the answer to that question. At best, you can get candid responses to your questions from military women and veterans based on their personal experience and knowledge of their military environment. While there may be differing views or military rivalry about which service is "the best," these are personal opinions. Certainly there is data available regarding differences between the services on such topics as better quality of life, better promotion opportunities, better geographical assignments, who gets more medals, etceteras, etceteras, but this would require research on your part. The armed forces is a complex system. Making an informed decision about which service is best for you requires a reasonable effort on your part to seek out as much information as possible.

5. What resources does this site provide?

For the military woman, it provides a location to participate on-line with other military women. For the potential military woman, it's a place to get direct information about women and military life. Students can get research material by way of personal interviews and direct answers. For "all others" it's a place to become better informed.

6. I don't want my e-mail address posted, can you ensure me that this won't happen?

I never disclose e-mail addresses unless specifically requested. I will maintain confidentiality within my purview. However, I have no control over security in domains and service providers elsewhere within the Internet who may have access to your e-mail as it moves through the intricate system from your computer to mine.

7. Why is the web page not displayed correctly?

We suggest that you use the latest Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape web browser to get full use of our web site.

8. I am interested in setting up a web page under your domain.

We are currently experimenting on a test trial web page hosting under our domain. Please E-Mail if you are interested in a web address of www.militarywoman.org/(name). Our Technical Director will be glad to construct your web page.

9.  Why are some of the messages removed in the message centers?

Messages will be purged for a few reasons:  (a)  Old messages will periodically be deleted; (b) Any flaming messages or direct attacks on other persons will be deleted.  While issues may be debated, messages involving slander or direct personal attacks will be removed; (c) Off-topic messages will be removed; (d) Messages will be removed at the request of the submitter.

10. I am really grateful for the service you are providing, where can I send in a contribution?

We are not currently accepting any money. We currently ask that you send us E-Mail asking to be part of our organization as we grow on a daily basis.
