Hi! I'm curious about ROTC and I was wondering if anyone who has been through ROTC could tell me how hard it is to juggle school work and the military training? Also what kind of training I would recieve and what the summer cruises consist of?

I was a NROTC Midshipman and graduated in 1996.**I feel that ROTC programs work very hard to balance education and military training.**Remember the program goal is to produce a college graduate and and officer.**My school had study groups and tutors right in the Navy Unit.**Senior class members helped out junior classmates.**Books and references were available in the unit library.**ROTC buys your books for you and you have to return them to the unit library at the end of the year.**If you want to you can buy your books from the Navy at the end of the semester at a discounted price.**For me personally, ROTC gave me the discipline to achieve grades that I might not have if I didn't have all their support.**There is the added benefit of all the leadership and management courses you are required to take.**All ROTC units are a little different so it helps if you can shop around.**My unit had "drill" once a week.**These were generally leadership and familiarization with the military classes.**Periodically we had an inspection.**Yes, ROTC is an additional commitment for the average college student but the rewards are great.**I made great friends and I was getting a paycheck two weeks after graduation.**I even managed to find time for a social life.**It really is worth it.
