I've been up to the base in April and talked to a couple people that were going to basic training.. but i didn't get all the answers to what i was wondering. first of all, i'm on the waiting list for august.. but am definate for november... is it harder in the summer? i mean, i know it's hot.. but do they make one run even more? also, i'm not huge (5'5, 105lbs) but i'm not in shape.. i'm more like a walking twig... how hard will it be for me to adapt? i'm starting to run and all, but i'm also going on vacation for a couple weeks so it's going to be hard for me to work out... will i be okay? also, i know this sounds stupid, but i really dislike the idea of open showers.. how bad is it.. and please be honest. I want to make sure that i'm not making the biggest mistake of my life by leaving sooner. Also, i'm**looking for people that are going to ILL in August for basic. Please, any advice you can give me will be greatly appreciated!

Diana:Given a choice, go in August... but, having been raised in southern Georgia I have always tolerated heat better than cold.Just a word to the wise, and please don't take this the wrong way but, if you are going to succeed, please make physical conditioning a part of your life... not something that you can't make time for on vacation... in the Navy it is part of our job to be fit 24X7 because you never can tell when the call will come...While I can't speak for the showers in boot camp, I went to Officer Indoctrination School, remember that because all of you had to go through a stringent physical prior to entry there is very little possibility that someone is endowed with something worth gazing at... plus, the best thing, everyone else is probably as "freaked" out as you will be, it is part of the rights of passage.**I hope that you also have been briefed about some of the other embarassing requirements:**observed urinalysis, regulations on what you can and can't do to adorn your body, horribly designed female uniforms...Don't get me wrong, I love the Navy but, there are things that each of us really hate about this life as well... the best part is that the situation will be the same in a civilian job and you won't meet as many interesting and different people and you will never be as appreciated for your uniqueness in the civilian community... just tell yourself that you have elected a life of public service and because of that you are required to do things that ordinary citizens don't have to do... that sets you apart, that makes you special.**But, remember, the Navy is NOT for everyone and if you find it hard to buy into these ideals then adjusting will be difficult if not impossible....**my advice start telling yourself these things tonight.//Best wishes and keep smiling.
