I am very interested in joining the Marines. However, due to the fact that I am a woman, I am afraid that I would be barred from a great deal of the more interesting jobs. I am interested in infantry, both on the officer and NCO levels and am particularly interested in becoming a DI. How attainable is this position and are there any other jobs that follow the common thread that are still available to women? I seriously do not want to be stuck behind a desk shuffling papers.

ChristineIt's great that you are interested in the corps don't let the fact that you are female stop you.**Women can't serve in Infantry or Field Artillery but, these are the only jobs that we aren't allowed to train in.**There are many many interesting things to do besides these to like Intelligence, Ordnance or Logistics.......there are literally hundreds of things to choose from so I'm sure you can find something that you will really enjoy.**Talk to your recruiter and get some more indepth info.**Good Luck.** Sem

Well Christine, don't worry about shuffling paper. It is amazing what opportunites lie ahead if you persue the Marine Corps. There are many jobs to choose from. Have you looked into Landing Support Specialist. That MOS has recently opened up to women within the last year or so. You would surely**see some action in that MOS. Now if you want to be a Drill Instuctor someday, that is an attainable goal... That duty comes with time in service, not MOS. Your recruiter will surely answer any questions that you may have. You might even ask your recruiter if there are any other Women Marines in the area that he/she**could contact for you that you could speak with one on one. Good Luck, and an early, SEMPER FI ..... email me if you have more questions.....

: I too am interested in joining the marines. I will be graduating from college with a B.S. degree in Education May of 1999.**I know of several women who entered Quantico. I am open to many options. I just need to know what is available to me.: : I am very interested in joining the Marines. I too do not want to be behind a desk, but the Marine Corps has given me the opportunity to become a Marine Combat Instructor of Water Survival.**It is a very physical and demanding job, but so fun and rewarding to know you have taught a recruit how to survive in extreme conditions.**My last bit of advice**Go For It!!! Do not think you will be stuck behind a desk, or limited in your job opportunities.** At my last command I was with a TOW Missile unit.**I went everywhere they did and participated in their training.**I was still Admin. It was a blast!**Stay motivated, be aggressive, be competitive, Work Hard! and the experiences and rewards will follow. Good luck to you.
