I'm a 17/F with a strong desire to be in the Marines.**I have basically lived by 'Semper Fidelis' my whole life without even knowing it; I'm very trustworthy, I never break promises willingly, I'm extremely punctual (If I'll be there at 9, I'll be there at 9), etc.**I love what the Marines stand for (honor, courage, commitment, loyalty, etc).**I have always been military-minded to a degree, am not big on clothing (I love fatigues and dress uniforms; I'll wear fatigues in summer 'cuz they look good on me.), and love guns/fighting/aircraft etc.**I am a senior this year, but I screwed up.**My acedemic record is mediocre, even for a private school.**I believe I have found the reason for this, though a bit late:**boredom from not being challenged.**I was labled 'gifted' in 3rd grade, but my grades from 5th+ aren't too great.**Yet whenever I feel I'm starting to be challenged by a teacher (or in anything I do) I excell.**I am a semi-out of shape (I need to loose about 15 pounds; I weigh 180, but ALOT of it is muscle) but I am still really strong.**I can play ice hockey (goalie) with 18+ men and keep up easily.**I am, however, harboring an injury at this moment (neck/back injury; got my head slammed in a car trunk [don't ask, it was my own stupidity for leaving the trunk up on a very windy day while getting things out of it for my aunt] though it is healing and I should be active shortly).**The point is, I've got a good mind and body for the military, and I need to face a challenge, which would come from joining the Marines.**I don't care about the money (even with the benefits, it's still a very meager income), and I want to serve my country.**My parents aren't exactly pro-my-wanting-to-join-any-branch (we've talked about it once a long time ago), but they would probably support my choice when it came down to it.**What do you guys think I should do?**Any suggestions, questions, comments, etc. are GLADLY welcomed!**Thanks alot!**Semper Fidelis!

In response to Hornet, I am in the same boat.**I too am 17/F, are military-minded, physically strong, and have also had a less than average school academic record in a private school (due to the same reason of being labeled gifted at an early age. . . and then not really being challenged).**However, I do take full responsibility for my grades and my record.**I graduated this year early (and unexpectedly) and have already considered and decided on joining the U.S. Marines.**I am a bit scared to take the ASVAB, not that I won't pass but that I won't score high enough for the position that I want in the field that I want it in.**My advice to you Hornet, is if your desire is strong enough, your parents support will definitely follow.**Good Luck! Please EMail me. . . .
