I relly am not concened about the training at boot camp. All I am worried about is , after 12 weeks of training and gettin myself mentally fit will I be able to go thru the crucible with not that many problems? I am scared about the whole thing but i have to turn my life around and do something right. I have always wanted to be a Marine. How much do you deal with guns in Basic Training? Write me back!!

Thanks, Kaci A.

Hiya Kaci. Don't make yourself sick worrying about the Crucible. I went on it a little over a week ago (I graduated boot camp 2 days ago). Yes, it was tough, but your team members and team leader will NOT let you fail. Teamwork is what they teach you throughout training and it is what will get you through the Crucible. Out of the 91 female recruits that went on the Crucible last week, only one didn't make it. BUT, she was having problems with her leg (or ankle or something) BEFORE we went.

About the weapons. During basic you will only handle one weapon. That is a rifle that weighs aproximately 7 lbs. You will carry it pretty much everywhere you go. I was glad to be rid of it when we turned them in Wednesday. =) Don't worry though, it is the least you'll have to deal with. Once you get over the lack of privacy and settle into the routine you'll do just fine. If you have any more questions feel free to email me. My computer is broken but I'll be using my father's computer on occasion to check my mail.

I just graduated boot camp yesterday. OOH-RAH! The Crucible really worried me before I went to PI. I really enjoyed the Crucible. I did the whole thing with very bad blisters on the balls and heels of both feet not to mention my toes too. My advice is to not let something like the Crucible be the reason you don't join. If you really want to be a Marine in your heart then go for it! I loved everything about boot camp and I actually was sad to leave! I plan on going back as a DI later in my career. Joining the Marine Corps was the best decision I have ever made. If you don't join now one day you may look back in regret and wonder "what if." I say go for it. There's nothing in the world that compares to getting the EGA placed in your hand. You deal with one weapon -- the M16A2 Service Rifle. You get it in recieving and it is yours till the Wednesday before you graduate. You drill with it everyday until training day 35. You sleeo with it a BWT. You fire it and clean it at the rifle range. You carry it to P.T. You hump with it. It becomes a part of your everyday life. You are inspected with it. Don't worry you will do just fine. Approximatelyevery month 200 females complete the Crucible. If you have any questions e-mail me. I leave for MCT in 10 days.

Best of Luck
