View Full Version : To cut or not to cut (hair)

I'm leaving for OCS this June ('99). Problem: my hair is dark, thick and wavy, and slightly below my shoulders. It stays tight in bun(with dark bands)...but would have to use "gel" for "fly aways".
Question: Am I better off cutting it in a "bob cut" (that's the shortest I'll cut it), or would it be even less manageable (falling in my face)
I'll have a lot more to worry about than something like my hair once I get there and want to do what's best ahead of time. I'd really appreciate any advice or tips!!! (Also, if anyone has any great tips for the bar hand---I could use all the help I can get. Thanks!!!!)

The Marine Corps Order states , your hair can touch but not fall below the lower portion of the collar, in all uniforms. It must not protrude in an unsightly manner from the properly worn cover.

Hey, this isn't exactly on the subject of hair, but I was just wondering, are you PLC or OCC? Reason I am asking is, I am also going to June class OCS, and will be in the OCC female platoon. Everyone I have talked to about the hair says that if you can do it up in 2 minutes or less, fine. Otherwise, cut it off. I had long hair up until this past January when I decided that I wasn't going to be able to do anything with it fast enough the way it was. So off it came. If you get a chance, I would love to hear from you.

: K. Being a former enlisted Marine and Having been forced to get my haircut at Paris Island, I have this word of advice: If you cut your hair. Its is a pain to try to grow it back out and stay within regulations. My suggestion to you, is just start practicing putting it up every day and consider letting it get a little longer. Believe me on this- 2 minutes with gel and a few bobby pins works wonders!

Thank you for all advice regarding hair! I'm going to try to keep it long and practice putting it up as suggested.
Thanks again and I look forward to meeting everyone reporting to OCS June 6th!!
