I'm doing a research proposal on the possibilites faced by the US if the draft must be re-instated due to low quality of recruits and low numbers of american men who are willing to serve. Would it be fair for women to be drafted due to them outnumbering men in the general population and by the year 2005 be the majority of the work force?**Any thoughts sent my way would be appreciated.

Firstly, I don't really believe the quality of recruits is low, although I don't have any facts to back my feelings.**Although "quality" is not a "quantifiable" criteria, I think you might be surprised if you do a comparison of recruits today and 20 years ago.**The minimum requirements to enter have changed in everything from brushes with the law to drugs to required education.**Secondly, I think there are lots of folks out there who would serve, particularly if they felt their country were in danger, and lastly, of course they should draft women if they draft men.**"Equality" means equal, not equal when it's convenient, advantageous or safe.**I think the draft is an old concept, though, and they're really not going to need it.
