Hi my name is Kelley. I have been thinking about going into the AF for a hwile now. My husband is ex-Army and he said he will support me in what i choose to do. I am currently in college, degree plan is EMTP. I would like to know what are the chance of me choosing the field i want. I will have my ECA by the middle of FEB. and i will have my EMT at the end of April 1999. if you have any info on this, please e-mail me. Also how strenuios is basic-training? Thank you,

Dear Kelley:
I served as an Aeromedical Tech. First of all, the AF has 2 career fields for "medics". One is Medical Services Tech, which is wards, clinics and EMS. The other is Aeromedical, which deals with "flyers" (pilots, missle crews, navigators, etc and even astronauts) The Aeromedical AFSC is 4FOX1, which is why they are called "4 Foxes". The primary job is physical exams. You will perform PEs on applicants for enlistment, commissions, flying duty and special ops duty. You will be trained to approve or disapprove a physical. You may also be performing exams such as pressure chambers and hyperbaric chambers on people wanting to enter the space program. It can be very exciting and you can meet a lot of interesting people. Also, in the event of an aircraft mishap (crashes, pilot ejects, shuttle accidents and even when the aircraft are under duress) it is YOU that will respond, not regular "hospital medics", because you are trained differently in the realms of aeronautics. Your school is at Brooks AFB in San Antonio TX and last 3 months. During that time you will also be certified an an NREMT. Good luck.
