Hi, I'm a senior in college thinking about joining the AF through OTS. A recruiter told me my best chance of getting in would be as a navigator. This career sounds very interesting to me, but I'm not sure if I have the "skills" to do it. (I'm a business major, however I'm looking to do something other than sit at a desk all day - that's why the military appeals to me). Does anyone have any advice/experience to share? I'm interested in finding out what it's like to be a navigator (especially from a woman's point of view). Any special characteristics/skills that would help one succeed at this job? Also, how hard is it to get into OTS? The recruiter said it's very competitive, and I have about 15% chance, considering their acceptance rates. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Lisa

Q: My recruiter told me my best chance of getting in would be as a navigator. A: Be careful! Don't join the Air Force because being a navigator is your best chance. Navigators have a low promotion rate--not because they're not as talented as the rest of Air Force members, but as technology grows, aircraft are being built without navigators--the aircraft does it all.
Q: I'm innterested in finding out what it's like to be a navigator (especially from a woman's point of view). A: I'm an aircrew member, albeit not a navigator, but that doesn't really matter. Aircrews fly together as a team, not individuals. You must like flying, lots of temporary duty, and working as a team.
Q: Also, how hard is it to get into OTS? A: Depends on the needs of the Air Force when you apply and what skills you have to offer. If they need engineers and your talents lie in music, chances are you won't be accepted. Good luck! d
