I am a 29 year old Air Force OTS Applicant. I am currently waiting to hear if my application for the Air Force will be accepted. In the event that it is not (this is the second time it has gone before the board), I am researching alternate routes to join the military. Namely the AF reserves and the Air National Guard. I would like suggestions as to which of these alternate choices would offer better career advancement and more opportunities to travel? I do understand the ramifications of becoming an officer from civilian status, (..is difficult!) and to attain officer status in the reserves or the guard would be a gradual process of joining as enlisted and working towards it. Apart from this fact I wonder which might offer the better opportunities for a motivated but not so young applicant?

***Cheryl,
I too decided late in my 20's to apply. I can't offer advice on which alternate route to take, but I can offer one piece of advice: if you don't get selected this board and you know it's what you really want, don't get discouraged. I tried for 5 years and literally felt I had to give up the dream at the age of 30. When I was 31 I learned that age waivers are becoming much more common, applied again and was finally accepted. Ask your recruiter about the age waiver. It was as simple as writing a short line statement saying, essentially, "I am requesting an age waiver." Good luck to you!
