Hi! I am kind of new to this and I really need some info from anyone who is in the Army. about 2 years ago, I got pregnant by an Army guy. Of course he stopped talking to me, he was on his way to PA, on a ROTC Green to Gold Scholarship program. He should be graduating May 2001, I know he has gone to officers bootcamp this summer also. My question is this, would he getr into trouble if he was in the military and did not pay child support? I know some Army people and they have a set limit of a certain amount of child support they have to pay. I am dealing with the state of Washington and I know I won't get no more than maybe $50 a month for my son, I am wondering if after my sons father is"back in boots" would the Army make him pay the amount he is supposed to? Any info would be appreciated!! Thanks!!

First thing you have to do is engage a lawyer. The court has to assess child support. Then you have to prove he is the father (by blood tests). Once fatherhood has been established and the court decress payment of support, then your lawyer can go to the Army and garnish his wages. They won't do that though until he is afforded the opportunity to do it on his own.

The Army will not track down the father, that is up to you. You will have to provide where he is stationed, his name, his rank, and his social security number. Again, this is where a lawyer will come in because it sounds like you have only general not specific information.

The Army will not hunt for the Dad's but once the father has been identified as the father (through court records), court allocated payments have been set, and you notify the Army of where he is at with all his particulars, they will take the appropriate action.

They will not just take your word for it, you have to follow legal avenues.

this is in response to your question kristin. if it is court ordered for him to pay child support and he fails to do so then yes he can get into trouble. the military is not the one who sets the monthly child support payments but can make sure it is enforced. the courts will go by his pay and the courts will orsder him to show prof of his monthly income. if he is not married he will get a monthly pay without dependants. but because say is given 500 dollars dowes not mean he has to give it all to you he only has to give what the courts order him to pay. good luck and let me know if i helped at all.

Hi Kristin,

First go back to court. If you know that he is in the military you can get an increase from $50 to more. Next, if you know his SSN tracking him down in the military is much easier. However, if you know his name if can still be done. Either way -- Don't wait!!! Time is important. If he marries or obtains another child the money you will receive for child support will decrease. Good luck.

Hi! I am writing again, because I have finally gotten in contact with my son's after we all recieved the results for our DNA. It states my son's afther is 99.99% the father. He is getting commisioned as an officer on May 17th 2001. I know he is married(has no other children) and the State of Washington is handling the case. He is currently almost 28 months behind in child support. On march 15th 2001, there will be a summary hearing. Now since he is unemployed, does anyone know what will happen? Or could give me an idea of what to expect? I know the DA is not too happy with him because he has avoided all paperwork and the like up until July 2000. And I think they will hang him. Will the child support kick in after he is commisioned as an officer? any help will be appreciated!!! Thanks!
