Can some body please tell me about the gas chamber? I was watching this program on the discovery channel a couple of nights ago and they had marine basic trainees in the gas chambers and that looked scary. How long do you have to be in there? And what is the worse thing that can happen while in there besides spazing out? I would really appreciate any info on this. Thanks

You will unmask in the chamber and it will feel like instant sunburn on your face. You will probably sing candences or say your name and number over and over again, so that you will inhale it into your lungs. Your lungs will start burning and some will start choking. Your eyes will tear up and some people will have trouble opening their eyes because they will be stinging. The weak ones will puke in the chamber. You will put your mask on again in the chamber, clear it, and resume breathing. Then you will go outside and air yourself out. The gas will be all over your uniform and you might get reinfected from it in the barracks when you take it off. I believe that there might be a water hose to wash your face out. I have seen some hardcore men, that aren't affected by the gas, and will request to go through it again

When I did the chamber, there were about 20 of us in there. They went around to individuals and had us say our name, rank, mos, SSN, where we were from and who our DS were. Then we put on our masks and cleared and sealed them. Then they took groups of 5 and had us remove our masks. We couldn't leave until everyone in the group had their mask off. When you leave the room you fan yourself off and pretty much all of the gas is off of you. They leave you outside for a while. Water only helps when it is being poured on you. After you leave the water you feel the affects of the gas still. Your best bet is not to use water. The gas needs oxygen and air to go away. The water smothers it and keeps it there.

You will never forget the smell of it.

You'll never forget the experience. It's not pleasant while your in there and the gas is burning your eyes, nose, and throat. But you won't die, and you'll have great stories to tell. You're in there for maybe 10 min. Just don't freak out or they'll keep you in there longer. A girl in my training platoon, who was little (maybe 5' tall), dropped her mask and man-handled a drill sergeant twice her size - throwing him out of the way and bolting out of the chamber. It was quite a sight.

THE GAS CHAMBER IS WHAT YOU CALL GOOD TRAINING. WHEN I WENT TO THE CHAMBER ABOUT 20 SOLDIERS WENT IN WITH OUR MASK ON IN A CIRCULAR ROTATION. 5 SOLDIERS HAD TO STEP UP TO A LINE UNMASK AND SAY THIER NAME, NUMBER AND WHAT PLATOON THEY WERE IN. THE DS DONT REALLY BE WORRIED ABOUT WHAT YOU SAY JUST HOLLA OUT WHAT YOU CAN BECAUSE YOUR EYES WILL BE BURNING YOUR LUNGS WILL BE BURNING. I REALLY THINK IT'S ALL ABOUT 1 MIN THAT YOU ARE IN THE CHAMBER I THINK IT'S LIKE 20 SECONDS WITHOUT YOUR MASK ON THEN YOU LEAVE THE CHAMBER GO OUTSIDE AND RECOVER.
