This policy has been strictly enforced for the past 7 years of operation! Please send in your contributions to help make this a useful site. I'm open to any improvements in making this a great web site. I'm Paula, the Assistant Webmaster. I joined the WACs in October of 1971. Initially I wanted to join as a tanker, but since women weren't allowed I went where my forte was -- as a bandsman. My first assignment was with the elite 14th Army (WAC) Band (the only all female service band at that time). Subsequent assignments were 5th Army at Ft. Sam Houston, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, and 12 years with the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT) at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky. During my time at Ft. Campbell I was deployed to Saudi Arabia. Positions I served in were First Sergeant, Administrative NCO, Supply Sergeant, Librarian, Training NCO, NBC (before CBR) NCO, escort duty, Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and EO Rep. Schools I attended were ANCOC for Administrative Specialist, TAFFs, SIDPERS, BTMS, Junior Leadership Development Course, Basic Bandsman Course, and the EO Course. I also completed myriad Army Correspondence Courses that covered everything from basic battle tactics to security. I attended Gadsden State in Alabama. My awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC). National Defense Service Medal (w/BS), Good Conduct Medal (6th award), Southwest Asia Service Medal (w/1BSS), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (3), Overseas Service Ribbon, and Army Service Ribbon. Also held expert badge for rifle, M60, and .45. In 1991, I retired from the Army and have returned to my first love -- writing. I have written articles about women in the military for other websites highlighting issues about women in the military. In this site, I participate regularly in panel discussions, questionnaires, contribute to articles as an interviewee, and assist myriad students and researchers on a variety of research papers about women in the military.
